Today was amazing!
Cathy and I found ourselves on another excellent loop in the Chugach State Park. Cathy graciously picked Ruby and I up this morning at 9am and drove us up to Arctic Valley where we set out for the saddle between Mount Gordon Lyons and Rendezvous Peak (further forth called Rondy Peak because it’s too hard to spell!) We had just the most amazing time sauntering through this magnificent valley and Ruby terrorized every ground squirrel who calls this valley their home, running all over and up and down and back again! We made it to the saddle and had the most amazing break in the marvelous sunshine!
We then set up towards Rondy Peak, while taking in the magnificent views of South Fork Valley in Eagle River. The trail up was pretty darn steep and boy, did we feel the burn! By the time we made it to the summit, we were pretty darn sweaty… but so so so happy!
After some pictures up top and taking in the view, we were still feeling pretty darn good and set off toward the top of Alpenglow. We headed down Rondy and up Alpenglow where we sat at the edge of the peak and took in just the most splendid views. The best thing about hiking with Cathy is she is just so darn fun to talk to and so it comes as a given that this break included some marvelous conversation. We were WARM and it felt delightful to have the sun baking on us!
After a break, we headed down Alpenglow and then to second chair and then the first chair and then down the west face until we found a little foot trail to link to and followed back to the Alpenglow lodge and then to the car.
It was an absolutely, perfect day. So rejuvenating. Seriously, hiking and getting on a peak clears my head. And I love spending time with my friend Cathy.
